Universal or accessible design, barrier-free housing, handicap access, and aging-in-place are all terms used to describe the process and techniques of planning for a time when complete physical mobility is no longer something we can take for granted. Kitchens, bathrooms and entries are areas of the home most likely to pose mobility problems, but accessible bedrooms, laundry facilities, commons areas, decks, porches and yards also merit attention.
